Make Permission The First Decision
Start by identifying who owns the documents, who may upload them, and who may see the resulting answers. If any answer is unclear, use public or synthetic material while the responsible person resolves it.
This page provides an evaluation protocol. It does not certify a provider’s privacy, legal compliance, citation accuracy, or suitability for confidential work. A successful sample test cannot answer contractual or data-handling questions for you.
Build A Small Test Pack
Prepare three harmless documents: a current policy, an older policy that disagrees with it, and an appendix with one important exception. Write down the correct answer and its source location before testing any tool.
Ask each candidate the same questions:
- What does the current policy require? Identify the supporting passage.
- What changed between the two versions?
- Which exception in the appendix changes the answer?
- What is the policy for a situation not covered by any document?
The last question checks whether the tool invents an answer where the source provides none. Include a document version and date in every saved result.
Use The Same Evidence Sheet
| Check | Evidence to inspect | What to do if it fails |
|---|---|---|
| Source tracing | The exact document and passage behind each important claim | Verify manually or reject the answer |
| Conflicting versions | Whether the answer identifies the newer policy and explains the conflict | Tighten the source set and repeat |
| Missing detail | Whether the appendix exception survives the summary | Retain an explicit exception checklist |
| Uncertainty | Whether unsupported questions are acknowledged | Keep the task away from unattended decisions |
| Review effort | Time spent opening sources and correcting the result | Compare that effort with reading the documents directly |
Do not turn this small test into a research-accuracy percentage. Record the specific failures and the conditions in which you would use the tool.
Resolve Data Questions Before Real Documents
Read the current official terms for the actual account and feature you plan to use. Record the source URL, check date, and any unanswered question about retention, training use, sharing, deletion, connected sources, or administrator access. Ask the provider or your organization when documentation is unclear.
An individual account and a workplace account may have different terms. A privacy setting also does not establish permission to upload a third party’s data. Keep credentials, personal records, and client material out of a trial until access is approved.
Finish With A Claim Ledger
Question:
Claim in the draft answer:
Original document / version / passage:
What the source actually supports:
Exception or uncertainty:
Human reviewer / date:
Decision: supported / needs correction / not supported
For academic work, apply your institution’s AI-use and attribution rules. Medical, legal, and financial material needs review appropriate to the decision and its consequences. A linked citation is a starting point for verification, not proof of correctness.
Choose A Candidate And A Recheck Trigger
Use the reviewed Learning Tools and task-first research path to choose candidates. Tool capabilities and account terms need confirmation at the official source; inclusion here does not establish confidential-data suitability.
Save your preferred candidates in My Shortlist. Re-run the sample test when document processing, access settings, account terms, or your own source set changes. Follow the source-checking playbook before using a final answer.
